Not only did Babe have a great day but the kids and I did too!!!! We went to Grimes Point (wearing our safari hats as Annalina called them) for what I thought would be a little "hike"/walk. Hmmm, it ended up into a full blown FOR REAL hike! We had a GREAT, GREAT time! The kids were absolute troopers!! I was impressed and proud of them. We had BIG hike.
We started out just taking a walk around the petroglyphs and decided to do the 1 mile hike to the cave. Well, I got directionally challenged and we ended up on the very top. We hiked some STEEP places. Annalina had a hard time making it up one place it was so steep. When we reached the top you could see for miles!! Ross said "OOOOOOOOOOO" he was impressed!!!
At the top came the real problem where to go next. I paused and thought and looked. I didn't want to scare the kids. I knew we had plenty of day light but my concern was how long the kids could make it especially after what we had just done! I couldn't easily run around figuring things out. All of a sudden, all on her own, Annalina said "I think we need to pray." Hmm, I told her she was right! We prayed and very shortly after that we peeked over and WAY DOWN in the distance we saw the van!!! On the way down Annalina kept saying "God is so good", "He showed us the way!". Amen to that! Gabriel said "We need to praise the Lord God". Amen, again! I am thankful for kids that are God Conscience.
Another funny thing that happened was Ross was on my back and at one point he leaned down and to the side trying to look right at me and said "Daddy, Daddy". That was very funny . . . his thought was I think we could use Daddy right about now!
Gabriel thought Grimes was bigger than Mt. Everest! I told him Mt. Everest is quite a bit bigger. How exciting adventures are to children. It is BIG to them and I got to take them on the adventure!!! I can't say what a joy that is. Have I ever said before "I love being a mother"?
But even though we saw the van it still took some figuring out to get down. I could see the trails (we were supposed to be on) WAY down below. I would tell the kids to stand somewhere and I looked down. Going down can be dangerous if you don't know your way one wrong step could be bad. I told the kids to stay close. I taught them some basic hiking lessons. Don't run down hills!! Don't step on loose rock (turn your ankle). We had such a great time together. I told the kids I think we are on top of the caves! As we made our way down we saw some of the rocks outcropping and the kids (especially Gabriel) was excited they climbed around. Gabriel pretended the one rock (he hid behind-its in a picture) was like the wall of Jericho!
