Encouragement

Last week I had a night I was discouraged and not happy with the way I was doing some things or not doing some things around the house. I was feeling like a failure and wished I could be a super hero woman---REALLY---I did want to be a superwoman! I got some great encouragement and wise words from my hubby. The next morning I was complimenting Annalina because this school year she has really worked hard at doing what she is supposed to be doing and in this case doing something without being reminded to do her duty. She said to me "It's not like I'm a great kid you train me." She just said it so matter of factly . . . like I didn't just turn into this mom you guided me to become this way. What an encouragement to me. She is a great kid by the way whether she said that or not.

**************************************************************************************

Tonight Annalina was reading a book and asked me what a housekeeper is so I told her. She said she did NOT want one because then she wouldn't do work. I agreed with her and said that she'd grow up and wonder how to do the work she needed to do! Annalina said "I'd say 'I need a housekeeper'!" I thought that was so funny!

Blessings in the Small Stuff

Every 3 months by military housing they have a mega garage sale to help those who are moving to clear their stuff out. It is so fun to go to with a lot of great stuff. I was excited to see how God provided things I had been wanting but couldn't spend the $ on now. Here is just a few of the things I got . . .
Black Leather Jacket (fits like it's made for me--I had wanted one!) $5
Leather shoes for Carson (about $40 new) $1
Lincoln Logs (approx. 160) $1
New shirt for me $2
Suit jacket for Gabriel $5 (I had been contemplating if I should spend the $ on a new one!)
Very nice dart board for the boys $2 (thought of getting this for Gabriel for Christmas!)
Preschool plastic roller blades for Ross $3 (wanted this before I ever saw them)

Another thing God has provided for us is private swim lessons for Gabriel. I knew he could really benefit from some private swim lessons but they were $1 a minute and we just couldn't swing that! Well, God provided . . . Gabriel is the ONLY kid in his class this month and every lessons is a private lesson except at group lesson prices, NICE! He has gotten to work on the things HE needed to work on like competitive turns and he now knows how to do them. He was so excited. I love seeing God provide like that it REALLY encourages me and is a reminder He really is in control of EVERYTHING!

Also, I had wanted a certain magazine and found out through a mommy money saving email that the magazine was on sale for $1.99 a year and I thought Oh, I can do that! But for some reason I couldn't get my request to go through, the websight may have been bogged down with requests who knows. Days later my neighbor came over with a stack of magazines. I said "I tried to sign up for these the other day but it wouldn't go through" she said Oh, don't I'll just give them to you! Again provided!

Arches National Park

When we were in Colorado Babe flew in to drive the rest of the way back to California with us! The kids and I were thrilled to have Daddy with us again after almost a month without him. On the way home we stopped to visit Arches National Park which was so cool to see. Another exciting thing we saw on the way home was a police chase with a RV! When the RV finally pulled over the police officer had a gun out and was waving the driver to the ground.
Us in front of one of the arches. It was such a beautiful park!
It can be unbearably hot there in the summer but
the day we were there is was PERFECT weather!
Gabriel under one of the arches.
The kids and Babe climbing in one of the arches.
Carson loved these bronze animal statues.

Visting Uncle Quentin and Aunt Theo

The kids LOVED Auntie Theo reading them some of her favorite
books that were very funny!
Ross is helping Aunt Theo to make her laundry soap.

I am so disappointed that I can not get more of the pictures from their house up on my blog. We did SOOOO much while we were there and had a blast. Unfortunately, my other pictures don't get picked up by my blog, weird and disappointing!

We went to a play ground (Uncle Quentin had the kids all running after an ice cream truck and got them all ice cream-- the stuff memories are made out of), we went to a SUPER cool kids museum (I wish I could get the pictures up! Did I mention that!), the kids LOVED their garden and would pick the vegetables and then help fix them for the meal (in fact, if we couldn't find Gabriel we knew we could find him in the garden!), we got to hear Uncle Quentin preach at his church ( to cool!), Uncle Quentin took Gabriel night fishing (big story goes with that), Theo and I went thrift store shopping AND antique shopping and had an absolute blast, the kids got to help Auntie Theo decorate desserts for a surprise anniversary party at their church.

TALK ABOUT A FISHING STORY

One night Uncle Quentin took Gabriel night fishing. They went to a park that Quentin had fished at before at night. Quentin noticed police with lights walking around and seemed to be searching. He noted what he saw and kept his eyes out for what was going on. After a few minutes they heard a BIG splash like either a rock was thrown in or someone jumped in. Quentin took a flashlight and started searching for the source of the splash. As he did this some one came behind them and said "You're all done!!!" Scary thing to hear when you are with a child on the end of a dock with water around you!! Quentin said "Do I know you?" The person started cussing and introduced himself as a cop! At least it's a cop! The cop orders Quentin to him and Quentin questioned him as to if he should come now or get all his stuff together and he was told to get his stuff. He said to Gabriel "Come on Gabriel let's get our things". When they got up and started walking down the dock to the officer my brother said the officers demeanor COMPLETELY changed and went to public servant as soon as he saw Gabriel and that it was a child!! He offered for Gabriel to look in his night vision goggles and told Gabriel that is how he found them. He asked Gabriel if he caught any fish and Gabriel said "No" and he said "To bad you didn't catch any before the Cops showed up!" Anyway, Gabriel's version of the story was not scary and was just excited about meeting the officer and getting to use night vision goggles and I credit that to Quentin's calmness of reaction and handling the situation. It was NOT a calm event for Quentin out on a dock with his little nephew and being told "You're all done!" Another memory for Gabers! (They found out the reason they were so ruff is that druggies, etc. sometimes hang out there and awhile back they had burned down a historic dock house.)

MY THRIFT STORE STORY

Theo and I went by ourselves to her favorite thrift store leaving the kids in Uncle Quentin's hands. I had a great time getting great bargain's (some really super books!) anyway, we saw this amazing old style (a grandpa had brought it in and said he didn't have any children left in the house) BIG doll house with a lot of the furniture in it and found out it was only $6!!! But there was a lady there with her little girl and she asked her girl do you want it? We stood there hoping she would say "NO" knowing Annalina would love it!! Well, the girl said "yes" of course! We were disappointed but stuck around to watch what would happen, maybe they would change their mind before they checked out. Well, they checked out and purchased the house and we thought well that is it we might as well finalize our purchases! All of a sudden the lady came back in and said "I want my money back!" She wanted to return the doll house!! NO WAY!! There was a little nail sticking up and all it needed is to be tapped down with a hammer. Theo and I got the doll house and Annalina LOVED it. When Theo and I talked later we found out that both of us had prayed that we could get that house!! God answers prayers and cares for our desires even the little things like doll houses! I love my Lord HE IS REAL and shows Himself in so many ways. That answer to our prayers was such a blessing to our day and it was so fun to see how happy Annalina was with it. We had to leave the doll house at their house because it was to big to come home but we can pick it up next summer when we move to Colorado!!

Starting Our Trip Back Home From Our Road Trip

One morning in one of the hotels the kids and I found Carson sleeping
like this and we all just thought it was adorable and had to get a picture.
Look at those ADORABLE feet!
Ahh, all the pools were great fun this summer!
Carson just looking cute.
We were all excited that we got to see the St. Louis Arch even if it was just
from the car. It was bigger than I remember it!

The day after being driving through St. Louis a semi-truck tire got kick up under our van and it started driving funny. I pulled over on the nearest exit which had NOTHING around. The tire had lodged under the car very firmly and I couldn't budge it. I had not even been out of the van 5 minutes and a tatoo'd angel came and asked if I needed help and I sure did. He could not remove the tire either but got a metal bar to pry it out and burned himself in the process. I am so grateful for the kindness and help. We got back on the road and a few hours down the road I realized I had no air-conditioner! The temperature kept going up and peaked at 109 degrees! A lot of the time it was 106 degrees. It was a bit scary having small children and such horrid temperatures but I kept them hydrated and we made it to the hotel after hours in terrible, terrible heat. God was so faithful. We ate, swam, and went to bed then got up during the night to travel in the cool of night to my brother and sister in laws. It was 30 degrees cooler at one point then it was the day before when we travelled! Much better! When I got to my brother Quentin's we got it to a mechanic to get it repaired! I was so proud of the kids they were troopers and could have belly-ached about the conditions but they rolled with the punches!

No End To Fun at Grandma and Grandpa's! (G.A.R.T#6)

What a bedtime routine . . . icecream and cartoons before bed!!
Grandpa bought the kids a water slide which they thoroughly enjoyed
especially with how hot it was there!
More slip and slide fun!
Grandma and Gabriel spent a lot of time playing games.
Gabriel found this fledgeling bird!
Grandma bought this for the kids at a garage sale. It is self propelled lawn mower. Carson laid claim to it and would not let anyone else touch it or sit on it! That was interesting to me since he really hasn't been a big toy kid and the fact that he liked a toy that much was interesting! I won't buy the kids self-propelled toys so they have to enjoy things like that at places like Grandma and Grandpa's!
Gabriel, Annalina, and Ross are ready for a water balloon
war with Grandpa!
Annalina in her lady bug outfit (Grandpa got her in another country) riding her scooter!
Annalina and Ross had a great time making
Monkey Bread with Grandma!
Water balloon fight with Grandpa!
Oooo, Nice Shot Ross!
The kids lovin Grandpa before he leaves on a trip.
Annalina lovin Grandma!
Carson having book time with Grandpa.
The kids had a great time with the water rocket.
There really was so much fun at Grandma and Grandpa's!!

Great American Road Trip--Part 6

Grandpa took us all to the Children's Science Museum just outside of Nashville. It was a children's museum like I have NEVER seen before!! It was amazing and SOOOO much there!
Ross and Gabriel are playing this brain waves game above. It reads your brain waves and the more you relax it moves a ball and whoever gets the ball to the other persons side wins. Ross beat in no time flat it was just humorous how he could just sit there when I was trying so hard to RELAX! Fun game and interesting. The screen in the back is the real readings from the game players brain! This game creeped Annalina out and she did NOT play!
Above: Annalina and Ross pick up a car do to the leverage.
The kids all thought this was great fun!
Above: Gabriel experiences what it might feel like to be in a space station in space with no gravity. Annalina was so disappointed she missed the weight minimum just barely!

Annalina puts herself in someone else's wheels! No, they had a place kids could try to see what it is like for disabled people. Pretty neat.

God's Grace is Enough

A few weeks ago our pastor preached a sermon titled: God's Grace is Enough. It was such a blessing to me with things that we have come up against in the last few months and I wanted to get it on my blog for future reference! Sometimes I can feel beat up by circumstances but God has a purpose for those times to use for my good.

Caddie Woodlawn-By Carol Ryrie Brink (And a Wonderful Quote on What it is to be a Lady and Mother)

We have finally completed Caddie Woodlawn. The only reason this book took us awhile to read was because we got very distracted this summer! This is my all time FAVORITE children's story and I bet if I asked Gabriel and Annalina they would say the same. Ross enjoys it very much too! Caddie Woodlawn is a TRUE story of a little girl growing up during the Civil War in Wisconsin. It's about country life, hard work, kindness, love, and integrity.

What I LOVE about this book is the TRUE CHILDHOOD these kids had. They used there imaginations and energy to propel their play. I also like the REAL relationship of the siblings which is full of love but also lessons and fights. This book is FULL of absolutely hysterical stories of them growing up. The kids and I would just be in stitches laughing. This is NOT a "girl book" there is so much for girls and boys.

That being said I have to put in here some wisdom that is so lost in today's culture. The importance of a TRUE WOMAN. I have been so disheartened to see lately the forgotten importance of womanhood/motherhood and it's impact on our history and it's influence on our future. It is not just lost "in the world" but even in our churches. Many don't seem to understand what a woman/mother (especially those that love the Lord and desire to instruct and teach their children in the Bible) does with her time during a week and seems to be ignorant as to their importance AT HOME. I love this segment out of this book about the importance of being a woman/mother . . .

Then the door creaked a little on its hinges, there was a glimmer of candlelight, and Father came in. He went first and looked at Minnie and Hetty. He put a lock of hair back from Minnie's forehead and pulled the sheet up over Hetty's shoulder. Then he came and stood by Caddie's bed. She lay very still with tightly closed eyes so that Father should think her asleep. It had fooled Hetty, but Father knew more than most people did. He put the candle down and sat on the side of the bed and took one of Caddies's hot hands in his cool ones. Then he began to speak in his nice quiet voice, without asking her to wake up or open her eyes or look at him.

"Perhaps Mother was a little hast to-day, Caddie," he said. "She really loves you very much, and, you see, she expects more of you than she would of someone she didn't care about. It's a strange thing, but somehow we expect more of girls than of boys. It is the sisters and wives and mothers, y0u know, Caddie, who keep the world sweet and beautiful. What a rough world it would be if there were only men and boys in it, doing things in their rough way! A woman's task is to teach them gentleness and courtesy and love and kindness. It's a big task, too, Caddie--harder than cutting trees or building mills or damming rivers. It takes nerve and courage and patience, but good women have those things. They have them just as much as the men who build bridges and carve roads through the wilderness. A woman's work is something fine and noble to grow up to, and it is just as important as a man's. But no man could ever do it so well. I don't want you to be the silly, affected person with fine clothes and manners, who folks sometimes call a lady. No, that is not what I want for you, my little girl. I want you to be a woman with a wise and understanding heart, healthy in body and honest in mind. Do you think you would like to be growing up into that woman now? How about it, Caddie, have we run with the colts long enough?"

Great American Road Trip--Part 5

July 22nd we made it to White House, TN to visit Grandpa and Grandma Johnson! We did SOOO much while there! One thing we went to see was the Hermitage where President Andrew Jackson lived. It was neat to see but is was INCREDIBLEY HOT!! I think we will probably revisit it at Christmas when we can roam around a bit more outside with out roasting!

Great American Road Trip--Part 4

We arrived at Babe's parents home July 18th and we left on the 21st. We would spend the morning with Great Grandma Ames in De Soto. It was so wonderful seeing her! The picture of us at her table is the scene I picture when I am away from her. She is always feeding! It was so great the kids could be with her and see her hilarious, fun, relaxing personality. I love her so much!

While we hung out with Great Grandma. Uncle Orin and Aunt Jan stopped in to say hi and so did Aunt Marlene. I was great to see them all again!

The picture of me by the phone booth was taken because that is the phone booth Babe called my Dad on to ask if he could marry me!! It was a LONG conversation but Babe passed the test with flying colors!

The picture of the kids outside a house is the kids with Grandma Lysne outside Babe's childhood home. The picture of the kids looking at something is Grandpa Lysne showing them how to reload bullets. Gabriel was thrilled to have this experience and also happy for all the shell casings Grandpa gave him!
